We hope you are well. Please see below updates from Kirklees UNISON.
Although many of the legal restrictions around Covid-19 have been removed, UNISON remains committed to fighting for workplaces that are as safe as possible. Please remember that there is a wealth of information on Covid-19 available at:
In light of the approach of colder weather it is particularly important that workplaces remain well-ventilated and there is a legal obligation on employers arising from the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 to ensure that enclosed workplaces have an adequate supply of fresh air. You can read detailed guidance on this here:
If you have any concerns that your workplace is unsafe then please do not hesitate to contact your local UNISON rep or the branch office on 01484 456945. If your workplace does not currently have a UNISON health & safety rep and you are interested in learning more about the role we would love to hear from you.

TUC DYING TO WORK CHARTER
On 8 November, there will be a signing ceremony at which Kirklees Council will officially become a signatory to the TUC’s Dying to Work Charter. UNISON called on the Council to adopt the Charter and we are delighted that we are finally in a position where this will be signed-off. The Charter demonstrates an employer’s commitment to supporting any employee who is diagnosed with a terminal illness and we hope that other employers in the district will now follow suit and adopt the Charter.
The branch will be asking stewards to engage in discussions with employers where the Charter has not yet been adopted. You can find out more about the TUC campaign here:
Across the region, hundreds of UNISON members have participated in our free learning opportunities this year. Regular updates appear on our Facebook page:
and you can find the full list of Autumn courses here:
Just a selection of the courses available are as follows:
- Dementia Awareness
- Autism Understood
- Interview Skills
- Retirement and Pensions Explained
- Makaton Level 1
There are many more available and we would strongly encourage members to have a look at the full programme.
With best wishes
